Children’s Nutrition Research Center招聘博士后
Children's Nutrition Research Center
We are searching for a motivated candidate to join a newly formed lab in the Children’s Nutrition Research Center (CNRC) (https://www.bcm.edu/departments/pediatrics/sections-divisions-centers/childrens-nutrition-research-center) at the Baylor College of Medicine. The CNRC is one of six USDA(United States Department of Agriculture)sponsored human nutrition research centers. The center is home to approximately 50 faculty members conducting broad nutrition and metabolism-related research. The objective of the research in Dr. Yi Zhu’s laboratory is to understand the basic biology of the adipose tissue and the liver in the effort to develop new concepts and biologics to treat diseases related to over-nutrition.
Currently, our focused research areas are:
1) The gap junction-dependent and -independent functions of the Connexin43 protein in adipocyte metabolism, adipokine secretion, milk production, and the communication of adipocytes with other types of cells within the depot. We apply basic scientific discoveries to develop dual functional biologics that concurrently engage adipocyte metabolism and gap junction activity to improve the efficacy of the starting molecule.(Cell Metab. 2016, 24, 420–433);
2) Hyaluronic acid (HA) production, hepatic clearance, and its role in modulating metabolism and liver fibrogenesis. We place a special emphasis on the effects of HA in modulating the immune function of the liver during the pathogenesis of nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) and its role in intrahepatic communication among hepatic sinusoidal endothelial cells, Kupffer cells, and stellate cells.(Sci. Trans Med. 2016, 8, 323ps4, and Matrix Biol. 2019, 78-79, 284-291.)
The postdoctoral fellow will have the freedom to work on topics broadly related to metabolism and nutrition. The postdoctoral fellow will receive a dedicated office space, a formal mentoring plan, and access to resources of career advancement in industry and academia.
Compensation:
The postdoctoral fellow will be compensated at the NIH postdoc salary scale, currently $50,004 for a candidate with 0-1 year of postdoctoral experience. Employment benefits are also provided.
Eligibility Criteria:
The candidate should be motivated to pursue a career in science, team-oriented, proactive, dedicated, honest, critical, and open-minded. The successful candidate must hold a doctoral degree or be obtaining a doctoral degree in the near future. If the candidate graduated/will graduate outside of the U.S., he/she is required to demonstrate English proficiency level. A first-author publication or manuscript submitted to a journal is expected. The candidate should have prior experience in the areas of molecular biology and protein engineering. Experience in metabolism or liver fibrogenesis is a plus.
Application:
To apply, email [email protected] with the subject “Postdoc 2019 – CNRC”. Include your CV, a short introductory letter (up to two pages) that describes your background, your research interests, and your motivations for applying for this position, and the contact information of three personal references (one of which should be the doctoral degree mentor). Baylor is an equal opportunity employer and values diversity. All applicants are welcome irrespective of race, nationality, gender, or sexual orientation.
